Bill Charlap and Julia Loktev




Jazz pianist supreme Bill Charlap visits the Speakeasy to talk about his music. Charlap's new CD, On May 22, Blue Note Records will release Charlap's first live recording date, Bill Charlap Trio-Live at The Village Vanguard, a nine-song snapshot of the New York-born and -based pianist who supplies a rigor-meets-romance musical sensibility. The date features tunes from such renowned jazz composers as Gerry Mulligan and Jim Hall and music from the Great American Songbook. The live recording is produced by Joel Moss, who also recorded and mixed the album.

Charlap also begins an engagement with his trio of himself, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Kenny Washington, at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola on May 22 running through June 3. Don't miss this dynamic trio!

Then filmmaker Julia Loktev discusses her film Day Night Day Night, in which A 19-year-old girl starts down the path to a suicide mission in Times Square. The film won the Youth Prize, at the Directors' Fortnight, Cannes Film Festival.
